Ratnasambhava’s name (Tib. Rinchen Jungné) translates as ‘Source of Jewels’ or ‘Unobstructed Accomplishment’. He is the buddha of the Ratna or Jewel family and presides over the buddha field known as Śrīmat, (Tib. Paldangdenpa) translated asRealm of Splendor’ (or Magnificence) located to the south. Ratnasambhava embodies the wisdom of equality, transforming selfish pride into the qualities of equality and equanimity. Ratnasambhava often is depicted with a cintāmaṇi (wish-fulfilling) jewel and his hand is in the mudrā of giving. He is described as glowing yellow in color and embodies richness, generosity, and abundance.

The earliest textual mention of Ratnasambhava seems to be in the Golden Light (Suvarṇaprabhāsa) Sūtra and in the Guhyasamāja Tantra.

Chokgyur Dechen Zhikpo Lingpa composed a prayer entitled Prayer to the Vidyādhara Gurus that includes a verse dedicated to Ratnasambhava:

lhochok penden dzépé zhingkham su
In the southern pure realm of Glorious Beauty,

ngagyel namdak nyamnyi podrang né
within the equality palace of immaculate pride,

sangyé rinchen jungden la solwa dep
Buddha Ratnasambhava: to you I pray!

ngagyel namdak tokpar jingyi lop
Bless me that I may realize the utter purity of pride!

And in the well-known terma, the Le’u Dünma, the Prayer in Seven Chapters, the Second Chapter, entitled The Prayer Requested by King Tri Songdetsen includes these verses:

lhochok palden dzepé zhingkham su
In the south, in the pure realm Beauty in Glory,

ngagyal namdak nyamnyi yeshe ngang
Embodying equalizing wisdom, which is pride in its natural purity,

rinchen jungné longchö dzokpé ku
Ratnasambhava presides as the saṃbhogakāya,

yönten rik chok rik kyi khor gyi kor
Surrounded by his entourage, the supreme family of Noble Qualities.

rinchen rik kyi lhatsok la solwa deb
To you—deities of the Ratna family, we pray!

orgyen pemajungné la solwa deb
To the Lotus-born Guru of Orgyen, we pray!
