Practice Together on the New Moon!

In Tibetan Buddhism, the new moon is an auspicious time for the accumulation of merit and wisdom. This month, the new moon falls on December 4th. Therefore, Tibetan Buddhists traditionally use this day to engage in virtuous activities such as lighting butter lamps, giving alms to the needy, circumambulating or reading about sacred sites, making aspiration prayers, and engaging in meditation practices.

This month, Samye Institute invited our Sangha to meditate collectively during this auspicious time. Some of our community chose to recall the kindness of the Buddha of our age by practicing the Treasury of Blessings sādhana, composed by Mipham Rinpoche. You can find visualization aids to support your practice in our chant library. You can also read this commentary on this practice from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche at Lotsawa House.

Samye Institute is overjoyed to announce that on the New Moon day of December 4th, our Sangha spent over 9 hours in meditation together! We will be hosting more Commit to Sit events on other auspicious days. We hope to see you soon!
