MORNING (10:30am to 12:00pm): “Right View as the Foundation of the Path”

The path truly begins when we fully acknowledge the facts of our existence and discover the genuine possibility of transforming our experience of these facts—by transforming our mind. There is a moment when we come to see the significance of impermanence, the pervasiveness of subtle existential anxiety, and the inescapable consequences of the momentum created at every moment by our thoughts, speech and action. And when we discover—by meeting a living example, or by stumbling upon it ourselves—how we can change our reactions to these facts simply by releasing the mind, we are then on our way to the fulfillment of our most precious opportunity as human beings. As we delve into meditation, study, and further steps the path, the importance of remembering these four fundamental principles cannot be emphasized enough. They are the ground upon which the practice of mindfulness awareness meditation can take root and blossom into insight and compassion.

    LUNCH BREAK (12pm-1:30pm)

AFTERNOON (1:30pm to 3:00pm): “The Activity of the Awakened Heart”

The ability to transform our world through transforming our mind naturally develops into the wish that insight infiltrate our entire life and world. This inspiration is called the Heart of Awakening, or in Sanskrit, Bodhicitta—literally wisdom heart. In its spontaneous and uncontrived form, this pure intention serves as the constant source of energy that fuels our selfless engagement with the world. When we can bring together and embody these two currents we become a Bodhisattva—a Bodhibeing—one who inhabits a world of limitless compassion. From this vastly enhanced vision, we naturally transcend our fixation on our self and our self-imposed limitations, and our activity serves as an inspiration for others to achieve the same.
