In this audio clip, Rinpoche explains that if we understand well the teaching on Dependent Arising (the 12 Links), then we will be able to understand emptiness.
He distinguishes between outer and inner dependent arising. It is important that we understand how dependecy applies to both.
He asks and answers these questions:
What is the benefit of knowing Dependent Arising?
Is there an agent of dependent arising – if so, who?Rinpoche also distinguishes between two types of ignorance, the first of the 12 Links. He explains ignorance with negative emotion and ignorance without negative emotions.
Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche’s root guru, said the following about sentient beings: “Sentient beings are always in one of three modes of mind – virtue, non-virtue and in the middle”. Can you observe this in your own mind?
