In Making Friends with Death, Buddhist teacher, Judy Lief  says the it is “our ongoing encounter with death, that very vulnerability, is what links us to one another. It takes courage to cultivate a continuing awareness of death beyond our theories and preconceptions, but that awareness is the basis for facing our own death and working skillfully with others.”

She encourages us to examine our own hopes and fears,  our attitudes towards death, as well as our assumptions and concerns. It’s good to unravel our ideas about death rather than hiding them.  What do we mean by the word death?  We view death in many ways:”as oblivion, as punishment, as loss, as separation, and as lack of completion.”

We each have our own unique and personal ideas and perspectives about death.  It’s important to examine them and to learn what they are.  What is your view of death?
