Dear friends near and far

As always, I hope this message finds you well, healthy and happy. On this last Guru Rinpoche day of the Tibetan year, I would like to share with you one more aspiration for rebirth in the Copper-Colored Mountain, this one written by none other than our only mother, Khandro Yeshé Tsogyel.

Among the manifold aspirations for rebirth in the Copper-Colored Mountain, of course there’s no need to mention that one written by Khandro Yeshé Tsogyel must be very precious. But on top of this, I find this particular prayer to be so very practical and realistic. Here she covers every eventuality, every step of the way not only to rebirth in the pure land but also to enlightenment once there. So please rejoice as you read this beautiful prayer, take Yeshé Tsogyel’s words to heart, and keep them in mind.

Prayer for Rebirth in the Copper-Colored Mountain of Glory
An Aspiration composed by Khandro Yeshé Tsogyal

Emaho!༔ Gurus who show me the path pure and profound,༔
yidam deities who grant me all I can desire for practice,༔
and ḍākinīs who dispell each and every obstacle:༔
I pray to you, please embrace me with your love!༔

When my time of death has arrived,༔
let me not cling onto this life,༔
but intent upon traveling to another realm,༔
may I be free of pain as mind and body part!༔

As the appearances of this life fade away,༔
let there be rainbows, relics, and flower rains,༔
and with voices and instruments resounding melodiously,༔
may the ḍākas and ḍākinīs come forth to greet me!༔

With steady mindfulness may my generation stage become clear,༔
and may I actualize the completion stage’s unwavering samadhi.༔
From their union, may I arise in the form of Vajradhara,༔
and travel upon the unmistaken path!༔

Yet, if my karma leads me to wander in samsara,༔
may the lands of hell appear as fine celestial palaces,༔
hell’s guardians as deities’ empty yet apparent forms,༔
and may unbearable suffering be perceived as bliss!༔

With vidyādhara gurus closing the ranks,༔
and hosts of yidam deity backing me up,༔
may Dharma protectors and guardians escort me༔
as ḍākas and ḍākinīs come forth to greet me!༔

In Uḍḍiyāna’s western Copper-Colored Mountain of Glory,༔
in the Lotus Light Net celestial palace,༔
the pure land where vidyādhara gurus reside,༔
may I miraculously take birth within a lotus flower!༔

As soon as I am born, may I meet face to face༔
with Padma, heir of victors, and recognize it is him!༔
Then, with genuine, fierce devotion,༔
may I follow and rely upon him without fail.༔

Thus, becoming an heir to Vidyādhara Padmasambhava,༔
the buddhas, bodhisattvas, all vidyādharas,༔
the hosts of ḍākinīs and all the victors,༔
may I uphold the teachings’ unfaltering banner!༔

Swiftly liberating all beings of the three realms༔
from the vast ocean of samsara,༔
may I become an omniscient guide to beings,༔
capable of leading them all to the land of liberation!༔

By the blessings of the utmost Three Jewels,༔
the power of hosts of yidam deities,༔
and the force of my pure altruistic wish,༔
may my prayers be fulfilled in this very way!༔

Here ends the prayer composed by Khandro Yeshé Tsogyel in the forest charnel ground of Chimpu.

Translated at the request of Kyapgön Phakchok Rinpoche by his faithful disciple, Oriane Sherap Lhamo, for the benefit of the sangha and of all beings. Lhasey Lotsawa Translations, January 2021.

May all beings achieve rebirth in the Copper-Colored Mountain!

With all my love and prayers.

Sarva Mangalam,

Phakchok Rinpoche
