Question: I am joyful when studying Buddhist texts and philosophy, but I get no joy from my practice. What advice does Rinpoche offer?

Phakchok Rinpoche responds to someone who has more of a cognitive approach to Buddhism. He notes that an intellectual focus alone can leave one feeling lonely and dry. In addition to studying, we can learn to create a sense of belonging by opening the door of our constricted hearts. The key is to combine scholarly study with the yogic path that emphasizes compassion and belonging. At this point, we may feel we are failing at this union. But don’t worry, Rinpoche reminds us. Failure means that we are trying!
