In this video teaching, Phakchok Rinpoche answers a student’s question about how to work with pride. The initial step to overcoming our pride and judgment is by recognizing the presence of pride and judgment within us. With this awareness, our practice becomes a disruption to our habitual patterns. However, pursuing meditation without recognition of our patterns leads to a blind practice that yields no progress.
Sincerity stands as the bedrock of our journey toward enlightenment. We must wholeheartedly cultivate compassion for all sentient beings, even if it initially seems emotionally challenging. This unease is a sign of our pride disintegrating, and we must embrace it with open hearts.
