Requirements

To begin this practice one should have taken refuge and bodhisattva vows and receive the Guru Rinpoche empowerment from the Lamé Tukdrup Barché Künsel. One then also should request the reading transmission on the text from a qualified lineage holder. And finally, practice instructions from a qualified drupla or lama in the tradition are excellent.

Introduction

This concise daily sadhana, Gyungyi Koljang from The Guru’s Heart Practice, Dispeller of All Obstacles (Lamé Tukdrup Barché Künsel), is an essentialized practice text that belongs to the main practice cycle of the New Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa (Chokling Tersar) tradition. The chief figure in the practice is Guru Rinpoche, and it is often referred to as the “single-form practice of Guru Rinpoche”. Nonetheless, the sambhogakaya Avalokiteshvara and the dharmakaya Amitabha and the manifestations are also mentioned briefly in the text. It is said that the Sixteenth Karmapa practiced this daily. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche commented that this is “a perfect practice. If you want just one practice and one single mantra, this is sufficient.”

Practice Read-Through and Commentary

In this teaching, Tulku Migmar Tsering reminds us of the proper motivation for practice. He then advises us that the essence of the 84,000 teachings of the Buddha comes down to taming the mind. We can do this by following the teachings of sutra and tantra: abandoning, transforming, or knowing the afflictive emotions.
