Description

Magnetizing Activity is one of the four activities (las bzhi) of Vajrayana deity yoga practice.

We enumerate the four activities as:

  1. Pacifying
  2. Enriching
  3. Magnetizing
  4. Subjugating or Subduing

When we practice the Vajrayana path, as Phakchok Rinpoche often reminds us, we make use of “all the tools in the toolbox”. Thus, first, we sent our motivation of bodhicitta. Having given rise to an altruistic mind, we harness all four energies or powers to accomplish whatever needs to be done to bring all beings to complete awakening.

Rinpoche frequently recommends that his students and all who are inspired to do so, recite the Great Cloud of Blessings, or Wang Dü magnetizing supplication. This supplication, composed by Ju Mipham Rinpoche, brings enormous benefit.

Phakchok Rinpoche recently explained to students at Gomde Denmark why we should regularly practice this magnetizing supplication.

Magnetizing activity attracts positive circumstances for the practitioner and for the sangha in general. Lamas often perform magnetizing rituals for Dharma centers to smooth the way and overcome obstacles for growth and development. When we wish to draw new members or attract students, magnetizing activities can be very helpful.

Similarly, as individuals, if we lack resources, it may be difficult to practice or make offerings, attend retreats and teachings, etc. When conditions are not conducive, we then make use of magnetizing activity to attract more conducive circumstances. Naturally, we do this with altruistic motivation based on loving-kindness, compassion, and bodhicitta.

As Phakchok Rinpoche explains here, we don’t have to do a lot of complicated things—simply chant this supplication prayer with trust and confidence.
