Samye Sangha Celebrates Saga Dawa

Saga Dawa Düchen, the ‘Festival of Vaishakha’, is one of the four major Buddhist holidays. It occurs on the full moon (the 15th day) of the fourth Tibetan lunar month, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana of our perfect, most supreme teacher, Buddha Shakyamuni.

Our international Samye sanghas undertook many virtuous activities to celebrate this auspicious occasion.

From the 13th to the 30th of May, Drubla Tsultrim Gyurmey and Lopon Thupten Gyatso visited Malaysia to lead the sangha in Saga Dawa and Vesak activities. Vesak Day was celebrated with the recitation of the Treasury of Blessings and Buddha bathing. The Penang sangha organized their annual Vesak Day float and a life release. Saga Dawa Düchen coincided with Phakchok Rinpoche’s birthday and students performed the Trinley Nyingpo feast offering and Narak Kongshak. A three-day Trinley Nyingpo Retreat was organized at Guru Lhakang in Kuala Lumpur. The lamas visited Ipoh Cave to chant Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche’s Ultimate Guru Yoga of Simplicity with a feast and lamp offering. This May marks the fifty-second anniversary since Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche first came to Malaysia.
