Commit to Sit: Guru Rinpoche Day
January 12, 2022 All day
Mahaguru Padmasambhava is known by many names in the Himalayan region. We may call out to him as Guru Rinpoche, the Lotus-Born Guru, the Buddha of the Three Times, or simply, the Mahaguru. The tenth day of every lunar month is sacred to him. Therefore, Vajrayāna practitioners commemorate this occasion on the 10th of each month by doing intensive practice and supplication.
Our partners at Nekhor have kindly compiled information about the Guru and his activities, including an explanation of the sources for his life stories. Phakchok Rinpoche sends out short teachings to inspire his students every Guru Rinpoche day, you can read this archive stretching back 10 years here. Rinpoche’s translation organization, Lhasey Lotsawa also maintains a beautiful archive of prayers to the Mahaguru.
On this day, Samye Institute invited our global sangha to contemplate Phakchok Rinpoche’s monthly message, and then sit in meditation. We are delighted that our sangha contributed 7 hours in collective meditation!
