Following in the Guru’s Footsteps: Kathmandu Valley Pilgrimage

Dear Dharma friends near and far,

Nekhor, an initiative of Samye Translations guided by Phakchok Rinpoche, is delighted to announce our Guru Rinpoche pilgrimage to Nepal in March 2025. March marks the first month of the Tibetan lunar calendar. The first fifteen days of this month, culminating in Choktrül Düchen, which celebrates the Buddha’s display of great miracles, are considered especially significant for making offerings and gathering auspicious circumstances. Virtuous actions performed during these two weeks are particularly meritorious. Therefore, our pilgrimage will begin on the eighth day, or Tara day, of the first Tibetan month and culminate on the fifteenth day with the celebration of Choktrül Düchen.

Join us on a sacred pilgrimage through the Kathmandu Valley with Nekhor. Together, we will journey, offer, aspire, and deepen our practice, dedicating our collective merit for the well-being of all.

Pilgrimage Itinerary

March 7th (Friday):
Our journey begins with a dinner and an initial meeting and introduction at the Road House Cafe at the Great Jarung Kashor Stupa.

March 8th:
We will travel to E-Vihara temple in Patan, Guru Rinpoche’s main seat in the Kathmandu Valley, and visit Patan’s sacred Avalokiteshvara statues.

March 9th:
Auspiciously coinciding with the tenth day of the first lunar month of the new Tibetan year, we will visit the Asura and Yangleshö caves, where Guru Rinpoche attained awakening.

March 10th:
Break day.

March 11th to March 13th:
We will drive to the Maratika caves and visit the sacred site where Guru Rinpoche attained immortality, stay overnight, and return the next day.

March 14th (Chotrül Düchen):
Our pilgrimage will culminate with offerings at the Great Jarung Kashor Stupa, and participation in the Tsekar (White Amitayus) Drupchen at Ka Nying Shedrup Ling.

March 15th:
Our pilgrimage will
auspiciously conclude in the morning, gathering at Ka Nying Shedrup Ling to
receive the siddhis of the Tsekar Drupchen. Afterwards we will visit the sacred
Vajrayogini site of Sankhu.

Beyond our pilgrimage, we encourage pilgrims to arrive early and participate in the festivities of Losar (28th of February), use the time for personal study and practice, and potentially stay on for a short retreat.

Minimum participants: 15
Please contact us at info@samyetranslations.org if you are interested in joining our pilgrimage.

We will provide you with further details shortly.

Wishing you well,
Your Nekhor team
