Samye Hermitage New York is seeking volunteers for its 2023 Summer Program. Samye Hermitage New York (formerly Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Cooperstown) provides a space for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism and meditation, as passed down through the Chokling Tersar lineage. We offer weekly meditation and discussion classes as well as longer term practice opportunities during our summer retreats.
The Summer Volunteer period is from June 1 to October 15, 2022. Volunteers are encouraged to join us as early in the summer as possible, and for a minimum of two weeks. This summer we will have a number of public programs, and help will be needed in the following areas: Kitchen, Grounds & Maintenance, and Program Logistics. Each volunteer will be expected to join our daily practice schedule, and to adhere to our community standards of ethical conduct. Depending on individual responsibilities, volunteers have the opportunity to join the summer program offerings, including daily meditation, teachings, and retreats.
This summer, Samye Hermitage New York is delighted to be welcoming Tulku Migmar Tsering, from July 1 – July 30, and Phakchok Rinpoche from September 22 – October 1, with weekend retreats in collaboration with Samye Institute in the interim (find the full program here). Beginner to advanced instruction in the Tibetan language will be offered by Oriane Lavole, Phakchok Rinpoche’s principal oral interpreter.
Situated on 25 acres in the rolling hills of upstate NY, the natural beauty of our surroundings provides a perfect backdrop for our study and practice of meditation and the Tibetan Buddhist wisdom tradition. Here, each of us practices to develop compassion, both for others and for ourselves.
