Mahamudra, the Great Seal, is the essence of all Dharma teachings and one of the supreme paths of practice. It condenses all of the Buddha’s teachings into a single gradual path is short, precise, and easy to practice.
Following the weekend program, Rinpoche and special guest Kyabjé Khenpo will remain in residence at Gomde to consecrate a very special shrine to consecrate the land and ensure a continuous rain of lineage blessings on our center, its environment, and our community. Students attending the Mahamudra program are welcome to stay on for this extraordinary event for a special reduced rate.
Teachings on Mahamudra
Basing his instructions on students’ prior experience, Phakchok Rinpoche will teach on the stages of shamatha meditation and then on vipashyana mediation. Rinpoche will also share priceless pith instructions and teach different methods for overcoming various obstacles that can obscure one’s meditation practice.
At the beginning of the retreat, students will be assigned to a specific Mahamudra level. The levels will depend upon the prior instruction and experience of the students. Such division makes it more effective for Rinpoche to target the teaching sessions specifically to the students’ needs.
Rinpoche suggests that all students prepare for this program by first attending either a Dawn of Dharma retreat in person (which are offered at Rangjung Yeshe Gomde New York in NY) or by following the Dharma Stream teachings at a study group or center.
Additionally, please consider that Rinpoche currently has an online course available in which he teaches the stages of Shamatha meditation. Ideally, it would be best to start practicing these teachings now in order to develop some practice experience and sincere questions prior to the September retreat.
