On this first Guru Rinpoche Day of the Tibetan Iron Ox year, we are joyfully announcing the Tsa Sum (or: Three Roots) Tsok Bum. This will be the 8th and final tsok bum in the Samye Tsok Bum Series which began last July. As this practice will happen in the first month, the merit will be multiplied as this whole month coincides with the anniversaries of miracles manifested by Shakyamuni Buddha. To learn more, please visit our page on Bumgyur Dawa, the first month of the Tibetan calendar.
The Tsa Sum (or: three roots of lama, yidam, and khandro) practice comes from the Seven Profound Cycles terma of Guru Rinpoche revealed by Chokyur Lingpa. It is a combination and compression of the practices of the guru (lama), the deity (yidam), and dakini (khandro). Here, the guru is Guru Pema Jungne, the yidam deity is Hiyagriva and dakini is Vajrayogini, the queen of the Dakinis.
Tsok is a profound Vajrayana practice of offering that swiftly gathers the accumulations of merit and wisdom and simultaneously purifies our obscurations. Bum means that the offering will be accumulated 100,000 times.
Phakchok Rinpoche will commence the gathering offering from the main shrine room at Asura Cave along with the three-year retreatants, who are practicing there. The feast offerings will be arranged directly in front of Guru Rinpoche’s practice cave.
So that everyone who wishes can practice together in this great vajra net of accumulating merit, the gathering offerings will be live-streamed via YouTube. We invite everyone to participate in this chain of mantra resounding throughout the globe.
Please Note:
The first day of this Tsok Bum will be live-streamed from 8:00 am -11:00 am on February 22. We are all encouraged to join in the online global accumulations during that time via Zoom or YouTube. The Tsa Sum tsok bum will continue into the afternoon and for four consecutive days afterward at the Asura cave retreat center.
